Inlays & Onlays in Agoura Hills

A Conservative, Long-Lasting Alternative to Full Crowns

When a tooth is too damaged for a regular filling but not damaged enough to require a full crown, inlays and onlays provide an ideal solution. At Agoura Dental Arts, Dr. Nathan Rabizadeh offers expertly crafted inlays and onlays to restore the strength, function, and appearance of your natural teeth—preserving more of your original tooth structure in the process.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

  • Inlays fit within the grooves of a tooth and do not extend over the cusps (the raised points on the chewing surface). They are used when damage is confined to the center of the tooth.

  • Onlays cover one or more cusps and a larger portion of the tooth’s surface. Sometimes called a “partial crown,” onlays are ideal for more extensive damage.

Both restorations are custom-made from durable materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or gold, and are bonded to the tooth for a secure fit.

Benefits of Inlays and Onlays

  • Preserve more natural tooth structure than full crowns

  • Stronger and longer-lasting than traditional fillings

  • Seamlessly matched to your natural tooth color and shape

  • Stain-resistant and durable materials

  • Improved chewing function and comfort

  • Reduced risk of future decay due to a precise, secure fit

Inlay and Onlay Procedure

  1. Evaluation & Preparation: Dr. Rabizadeh will assess the damage and determine if an inlay or onlay is appropriate. The affected area is cleaned, and the tooth is shaped.

  2. Impressions: Digital or traditional impressions are taken and sent to a dental lab to craft your custom inlay or onlay.

  3. Temporary Filling: A temporary restoration may be placed while your final piece is fabricated.

  4. Placement: Once your restoration is ready, it’s bonded in place and polished for a natural look and feel.
